It is with great sadness and a profound feeling of loss that we announce the passing of Mohamed “Mikko” Hassan Abd El Aal, one of Foundry Workship Istanbul 2010′s finest students. A full scholarship will be announced shortly in his name.
The work he produced in Istanbul for Foundry 2010 can be viewed in this slideshow.

Throughout my life, I lived and worked in Cairo. About two years ago, I graduated from the Akhbar El-Yom Academy with an honorary degree in Journalism. I had my first photographic experience while studying at the academy. For my very first feature, I selected the annual Cairo Spring Flower Exhibition. Since that time, my interest for photography documentations has grown more and more. After graduating, I started to work as a press photographer for the daily newspaper El-Shorouk El Gedid. Growing up in the biggest African city made a big impression on me. Cairo is a city full of contrasts. Besides political issues, like protests and demonstrations, I am interested in features about manufactures in the old part of Cairo. One of these features led to my first prize in the annual press photography competition of Egypt in 2009.
