Special Foundry Workshop Announcement
Foundry Workshops is excited to be able to offer, for the first time, a special Surviving Hostile Regions course, in collaboration with AKE Ltd. AKE is one of the world’s leading providers of conflict survival education for journalists. Their world class instructors have generously volunteered to teach a course at cost (no profit made) for up to twenty (20) persons; this allows Foundry to both offer limited full and partial scholarships as well as a significantly reduced fee for this life saving course. We are thrilled to be able to couple the world class photojournalism and visual storytelling classes of the Foundry Workshop with AKE’s premier SHR course. In doing so, both Foundry and AKE feel we will be better preparing emerging photographers with the skills they need to not only tell the stories of those in conflict, but to survive and help others stay alive in dangerous and difficult field situations.
The rules of the game:
- You must be enrolled and tuition fully paid in the Foundry PHotojournalism Workshop, 2012, held in Chiang Mai, Thailand, between July 29- August 4, 2012.
- You must come and take a class at Foundry to qualify for the AKE Hostile Regions Course.
- Staying true to our mandate, this is strictly a package deal- meant to help those who normally couldn’t afford either a workshop or a course of this nature.
The course is being taught the week after Foundry Workshop.
Dates are AUGUST 6 – AUGUST 10, 2012.
LOCATION- either outside Chiang Mai or outside Bangkok, to be determined.
COST: TBD, aiming for about $500 for regional students, and $1500 for everyone else. This is at least 3/4 off their usual price.
This is in addition to tuition cost for the Foundry Workshop.
FINAL COST WILL BE DETERMINED BASED ON ENROLLMENT.
ENROLLMENT: Limited to 20 students MAXIMUM.
There are a pre-set number of slots for regional and for Western photographers. If we do not get enough of each, we cannot cover the course costs and will have to cancel. We do not anticipate this happening however.
SCHOLARSHIPS: There will be several full fee and partial fee scholarships for REGIONAL STUDENTS ONLY, including at least two awards reserved for those from Thailand, Burma, Cambodia, Vietnam, or Laos. Details to be announced in January/February.
LODGING, FOOD & TRAVEL: These costs will be born by the course students, same as with the Foundry Workshop. We will aim to get it as cheap as is possible. We have to work within the parameters that AKE courses need to operate, which are quite specific.
PAYMENT: Once the final cost is announced, we will operate on a first come, first serve basis- using the number of slots for each group (regional and western) as the basis for who is enrolled in the AKE course.
Payment for AKE and for Foundry MUST BE DONE AT THE SAME TIME, VIA PAYPAL OR WESTERN UNION. IF YOU HAVE ALREADY PAID FULL TUITION FOR FOUNDRY, YOU MAY PAY THE AKE FEE SEPARATELY.
Once the course is full, it is full. We may operate a waiting list in case someone needs to drop their slot.
We are excited about this partnership and will see you in Thailand!
