how do i start researching for a story? :) i would love some ideas.. :)
'when will we learn about class schedules and how to find our stories, and do we need to find our stories before we start the program'
Hey there,
ok so to answer both your questions --
- How to start researching your story - I think it's important to find something you're passionate about. Is it a sport? Is it a creative art form? Is it a personal story? Is it something about the culture that intrigues you? Find out what is available to you in Istanbul, what is accessible, will you need a translator/fixer to be able to approach them. The instructors will help you find a point of focus once you know what you are going to shoot. You can always bounce ideas off us.
Eric will be adding to this...
- It'll be of benefit to you if you have an idea about what you are going to photograph in the duration of the workshop - which is why we urge students to research, arrive a few days early, talk to local people etc. That way you hit the ground running and not spend time in the initial workshop days to search for a story.
- Class placements are yet to happen and you will be contacted soon.

Hi,
I'm applying for my visa and was wondering what category to apply under. I was going to select 'single entry tourist' but I found a specific category for ppl. coming in to film and photograph - http://www.konsolosluk.gov.tr/InfoNotes/IN_Item.aspx?ID=300 and I was wondering if this is applicable to me.
Also, was wondering who i should be talking to about a story idea I want to work. Need help finding contacts...
Thanks,
Nitya!
Re Visa, Tourist visa is ok.
How does one usually go about looking for a fixer? Other than lightstalkers is there any other forum I can post a msg to say I'm looking for one?
Fixers will be available via the center we have the workshop at. A fixer for the day in Istanbul is about 40-80$ depending on where/how/who you get them thru.
Definitely recommend LS to get a better idea of local fixers/photographers willing to help.
