Workshop Information

WHERE?

Manali, Himachal Pradesh, India

WHEN?

26 July – 1 August 2009

WHO CAN ATTEND ?

Any age or experience level is welcome at the workshop, and last year’s was a great mix of novice to expert. Anyone — formal or informal students, novices, etc— is welcome to attend.

However, we do have a few enrollment restrictions*, to ensure that those who would most benefit from the workshop are served.

+ Freelancers with 3 years experience or less are welcome to attend.

+ Newspaper staffers with 2 years experience or less or welcome to attend.

* These restrictions do NOT apply to South Asian photographers
(Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Tibet, Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, Burma, etc.)

ENROLLMENT

There are 100 slots available for students.*

They are on a first come first served basis.

THERE IS NO NEED TO APPLY. Once the fee is paid, you are considered enrolled.

Once all slots are filled, the workshop will be considered full.

There will be a waiting list, as changes are sure to occur.

NO COURSE WILL HAVE OVER 10 STUDENTS IN IT.

*Multiple slots are saved for South Asian students.

TUITION

Tuition is $900 for the workshop program*. This includes six days of classes, all slideshows, panels, parties, portfolio reviews, and events during the workshop week. It does not include travel, lodging, airfare, food, etc.

* For South Asian photojournalists, tuition is $450.

PAYMENT

All payments must be made via PAYPAL to:

foundryphotoworkshop [at] hotmail [dot] com

After January 1, 2009 all tuition must be paid in full to secure a student slot. PLEASE make sure that your name and contact information is included with your payment!

REFUNDS

We understand that plans change, life happens, and you may need to back out of the workshop.

Partial (50%) refunds are available from January 1 until March 1. After March 1, 2009 NO refund is possible- though you can apply this year’s tuition to next year’s workshop (2010).  This is because costs have been accrued, arrangements have to be secured (airfare, hotel, technology, fixers, etc) and we have invested substantial amounts of money into the workshop that cant be refunded.

WORKSHOP CANCELLATION POLICY

If the workshop does not receive enough students to be economically & logistically viable, we reserve the right to cancel this years workshop. Upon cancellation, all tuition paid will be refunded (excepting the non-refundable deposit if paid between November and January 1, 2009), minus already accrued workshop costs (items like hotel deposits, airfare deposits, advertising, etc). We will basically take the remaining tuition and spit it evenly between all students and refund it via PayPal. We don’t anticipate this will occur; last year’s Mexico workshop had over 140 students and was a smashing success. But we understand that economic realities make this a very small but still plausible possibility.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarships from various individuals and sponsors will be available, including partial and full tuition awards. Check here for updates.

CLASS REGISTRATION

Courses are being developed and teachers are still signing on. Securing a slot does not guarantee a spot in a specific class. Most courses are open enrollmentl however, some will be portfolio based as a requirement for enrollment.
