Scholarship Terms and Conditions

2019 SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION – TERMS AND CONDITIONS

ELIGIBILITY:

The VII Academy scholarships for the Foundry Photojournalism workshop are open to working photographers or visual journalism students who are trying to further their education and professional skills.

Volunteers, employees and directors of The VII Academy and The VII Foundation, and their immediate families are NOT eligible to apply for funding. Advisory board members and their immediate families are NOT eligible to apply for funding. Scholarship application judges, and their immediate families, are NOT eligible to apply for funding in the year that judges help choose scholarship recipients.

Only those submissions that meet the eligibility requirements and include all required materials will be considered for entry.

REQUIREMENTS OF SCHOLARSHIP WINNER AND FINALIST(S):

By submitting an application, scholarship applicants agree to be fully and unconditionally bound to these Terms and Conditions.

The VII Academy scholarship program will be administered in accordance with all applicable laws, rules and regulations including, but not limited to, those promulgated by the Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control.

Scholarship winners are responsible for reporting the scholarship for tax purposes as required by applicable law.

Scholarship recipients retain all copyrights to their work. Obligations of scholarship recipients are as follows:

Recipients must submit the high-resolution images, text, and/or video produced during the workshop or event to The VII Academy or The VII Foundation or The Foundry Photojournalism Workshops within 1 week of the end of the workshop or event. Scholarship recipients agree to grant royalty-free licenses for his/her scholarship work to The VII Academy and The VII Foundation for possible exhibition and/or publication (no guarantees are made for publication or exhibition) of such work in connection with this program; for educational and/or community outreach purposes, including lesson plans; and, in addition to his or her likeness, for publicity and press purposes by The VII Academy, The VII Foundation, and The Foundry Photojournalism Workshops related to this program. Any photograph so used by The VII Academy, The VII Foundation, and The Foundry Photojournalism Workshops will carry the photographer’s credit/copyright line when reasonable.

Scholarship applicants waive the right to claim any damages whatsoever, including, but not limited to, punitive, consequential, direct, or indirect damages. The VII Academy, The VII Foundation, The Foundry Photojournalism Workshops and their respective affiliates, officers, directors, employees and agents do not have and will not have any liability whatsoever for, and shall be held harmless against, any liability for any illness, injuries, losses, death, litigation, claim or damages of any kind to persons or property resulting in or in part, directly or indirectly, whether caused by negligence or not, from acceptance, possession, misuse or use of any scholarship.

Should a court of law find The VII Academy, The VII Foundation or The Foundry Photojournalism Workshops liable for loss or damage, their total liability will be limited to the amount of the scholarship, and in no event shall they be liable for attorney’s fees.

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICANT PRIVACY NOTICE:

It will be necessary for The VII Foundation and The VII Academy to collect applicants‘ personal data in order to administer and manage this scholarship program, including but not limited to processing the scholarship applications, keeping scholarship applicants informed about the scholarship program, and making scholarship distributions. The types of personal data we collect for this scholarship program include each applicant’s name, affiliated business/school name, email address, telephone number, postal address, and other information requested in the application form. The VII Foundation and The VII Academy only collects personal data voluntarily submitted by scholarship applicants. Personal data submitted by scholarship applicants will only be used to administer and manage this scholarship program, and for The VII Foundation’s and The VII Academy’s internal use such as performing marketing studies, research projects, and program development.

The VII Foundation and The VII Academy will not share, sell, or rent personal data submitted by scholarship applicants to any third parties for their promotional use or for marketing purposes, except in the event a third party vendor is acting as an agent of The VII Foundation and The VII Academy for operational support in connection with the scholarship program.

The VII Foundation’s principle place of business is in the United States. If the scholarship applicant is submitting the application from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States where The VII Foundation’s servers are located, and you agree to such cross-boarder transfers of personal data.

The VII Foundation and The VII Academy is committed to protecting personal data from loss, misuse, alteration, and unauthorized access and takes reasonable precautions to safeguard the confidentiality of personal data, including physical access controls to our premises, use of passwords for access to our systems, use of encryption when appropriate, and use of anti-virus software. Although The VII Foundation and The VII Academy makes every effort to protect the information you provide to us, the transmission of information between applicants to us over the internet is not completely secure. As such, The VII Foundation and The VII Academy cannot guarantee the security of personal data transmitted over the internet. SCHOLARSHIP DISTRIBUTION AND DEADLINES:

For tuition-only scholarships, recipients will not receive any money, but rather will be invited to attend a workshop.

For travel reimbursements, unless otherwise arranged beforehand, you’ll receive a reimbursement in US Dollars during the workshop. You must provide an invoice, and receipts and proof of travel. If you do not know how to create an invoice, please email [email protected] for a template.
